What Does Km Per Rental Mean?
What Does “Minimum 300 Kms Per Rental” Mean for Outstation Car Rentals?
When you book an outstation car rental in India, you will often see a rule that says:
“Minimum 300 kms per day” or “300 kms minimum per rental.”
This means that whether or not you actually travel 300 kilometres, you will be billed for at least 300 km per day.
Why Is There a Minimum Kilometre Rule?
Outstation trips require the car and the chauffeur to remain with you for the entire duration of the journey.
The operator must cover:
- Fuel costs
- Driver’s allowance
- Vehicle wear and tear
- Return trip distance
- Parking and waiting time
Even if the customer travels only 150 km, the car still spends the whole day on duty. So the minimum km rule ensures the trip remains viable for the rental company.
Example to Understand It Better
Let’s say you book a car from Mumbai to Lonavala for 1 day.
Scenario 1: You travel only 180 km
You will still be charged for 300 km, as that is the minimum.
Scenario 2: You travel 350 km
You will be charged for 350 km, because it exceeds the minimum.
Does This Apply Every Day?
Yes—the minimum is applied per rental day.
If your trip is 2 days, the billing will be:
- 300 km × 2 days = 600 km (minimum charge)
- If your actual kilometres exceed this, the higher number will be billed.
In Short
✔ You are charged at least 300 km per day, even if you use less.
✔ If you exceed 300 km, you pay for the actual kilometres used.
✔ This rule makes outstation rentals practical for the company and convenient for the customer.
